Born into a family of ophthalmologists in Argentina, Dr. Tosi received his medical degree at the University of La Plata School of Medicine, became Chief resident in ophthalmology and completed a retina fellowship for two years at the University of Buenos Aires. After working in private practice for three years with his family, he then moved to the United States to pursue his dream of becoming a clinician-scientist.

Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Tosi spent time researching gene therapy and stem-cell therapies for retinal degeneration-associated diseases at Columbia University, and completed a fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery at Kresge Eye Institute. He served as Directory of the Retina Service at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and created the first retinal dystrophy clinic at New Mexico providing state-of-the art testing, including gene testing.
